Cheerio Treats
I don’t really like Cheerios. Truth be told, I don’t really like cereal. It leaves me hungry after an hour. My favorite breakfast is a hard boiled egg with a little salt and a latte on the side! Perfection!
My daughter does like cheerios for breakfast and now she likes them as a snack in her lunch too in the form of these treats. I am always trying to find snacks I can put in her lunch that will break up the monotony of peanut butter sandwiches, apples, snap peas and goldfish.
I thought I was being brilliant one day when I came up with substituting cheerios for rice krispies in these treats. I went online to see if anybody else had thought about this substitution and everyone had. Who wouldn’t? I’m glad everyone else is one step ahead of me!
So instead of reinventing the wheel, here’s the recipe I found online!
Cheerio Treats
from Cooks.com
makes about 10 treats
2 T. butter
5 oz. marshmallows
4 c. cheerios
parchment paper
1. Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the marshmallows and stir until melted.
2. Add the cheerios and stir until the marshmallow mixture coats most of the cheerios.
3. Dump the blob out onto a piece of parchment paper, press down a bit and let cool for 20 to 30 minutes.
4. Cut into chunks of yummy gooeyness and enjoy. Store in an airtight container for up to a week (although mine didn’t stick around that long).
