A Tale of Two Frostings
My friend Sam has a gig/bake sale tonight with his band the Uncertain Sea. Check ’em out at the Meadowlark at 8pm!
A bake sale to raise money for their trip to Austin for the SXSW next weekend. I made some of the Guinness Cupcakes to help the cause.
Sam requested Red Velvet Frosting so this is what I came up with…
Red Velvet Frosting
8 oz. cream cheese
1/2 c. unsalted butter cut into chunks
1/2 t. vanilla extract
2 c. powdered sugar
2 t. hershey’s unsweetened cocoa
1/4 t. red gel food coloring
Whip it all up in a stand mixer with the whisk attached and pipe it on.
To make them really fancy I dipped them in white sanding sugar.
To give these cupcakes some variety I put bourbon buttercream frosting on some…
Bourbon Buttercream Frosting
2 c. powdered sugar
1/2 c. unsalted butter cut into chunks
3 T. Maker’s Mark Bourbon
1 T. whipping cream
Whip it all up in a stand mixer with the whisk attached and pipe it on.
I dipped these in gold sugar cupcake gems by Betty Crocker.
Go buy some tonight at the Meadowlark and support your local musicians!
